Gospel of Luke
7:17 And this rumour of him* went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about.
7:18 And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.
7:19 And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
7:20 When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?
7:21 And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.
7:22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
7:23 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
7:24 And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
7:25 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts.
7:26 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.
7:27 This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
7:28 For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
7:29 And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.
7:30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.
Isaiah
8:13 The Lord of hosts, Him you shall hallow; Let Him be your fear, And let Him be your dread.
8:14 He will be as a sanctuary, But a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense To both the houses of Israel, As a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
8:15 And many among them shall stumble; They shall fall and be broken, Be snared and taken.”
8:16 Bind up the testimony, Seal the law among my disciples.
8:17 And I will wait on the Lord, Who hides His face from the house of Jacob; And I will hope in Him.
8:18 Here am I and the children whom the Lord has given me! We are for signs and wonders in Israel From the Lord of hosts, Who dwells in Mount Zion.
8:19 And when they say to you, “Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter,” should not a people seek their God? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living?
8:20 To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
8:21 They will pass through it hard-pressed and hungry; and it shall happen, when they are hungry, that they will be enraged and curse their king and their God, and look upward.
8:22 Then they will look to the earth, and see trouble and darkness, gloom of anguish; and they will be driven into darkness.
9:1 Nevertheless the gloom will not be upon her who is distressed, As when at first He lightly esteemed The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, And afterward more heavily oppressed her, By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, In Galilee of the Gentile
9:2 The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them a light has shined.
9:3 You have multiplied the nation And increased its joy; They rejoice before You According to the joy of harvest, As men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
9:4 For You have broken the yoke of his burden And the staff of his shoulder, The rod of his oppressor, As in the day of Midian.
9:5 For every warrior’s sandal from the noisy battle, And garments rolled in blood, Will be used for burning and fuel of fire.
9:6 For unto* us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
9:7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Genesis
6:9 This is the genealogy of Noah. *Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.
6:10 And Noah begot three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
6:11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
6:12 So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
6:13 And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
6:14 “Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.
6:15 “And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.
6:16 “You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks.
6:17 “And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die.
6:18 “But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark – you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.
6:19 “And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female.
6:20 “Of the birds after their kind, of animals after their kind, and of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive.
6:21 “And you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten, and you shall gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and for them.”
6:22 Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.
Proverbs
8:1 Does* not wisdom cry out, And understanding lift up her voice?
8:2 She takes her stand on the top of the high hill, Beside the way, where the paths meet.
8:3 She cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city, At the entrance of the doors:
8:4 “To you, O men, I call, And my voice is to the sons of men.
8:5 O you simple ones, understand prudence, And you fools, be of an understanding heart.
8:6 Listen, for I will speak of excellent things, And from the opening of my lips will come right things;
8:7 For my mouth will speak truth; Wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
8:8 All the words of my mouth are with righteousness; Nothing crooked or perverse is in them.
8:9 They are all plain to him who understands, And right to those who find knowledge.
8:10 Receive my instruction, and not silver, And knowledge rather than choice gold;
8:11 For wisdom is better than rubies, And all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her.
8:12 “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And find out knowledge and discretion.
8:13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.
8:14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom; I am understanding, I have strength.
8:15 By me kings reign, And rulers decree justice.
8:16 By me princes rule, and nobles, All the judges of the earth.
8:17 I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.
8:18 Riches and honor are with me, Enduring riches and righteousness.
8:19 My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold, And my revenue than choice silver.
8:20 I traverse the way of righteousness, In the midst of the paths of justice,
8:21 That I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth, That I may fill their treasuries.
2 Corinthians
4:6 For* God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
4:8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
4:9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
4:10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
4:11 For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
4:12 So then death worketh in us, but life in you.
4:13 We* having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
4:14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.
4:15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.
Gospel of Matthew
11:2 Now* when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
11:3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
11:4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
11:5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
11:6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
11:7 And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
11:8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
11:9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
11:10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
11:11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
11:12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
11:13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
11:14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
11:15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
