ΧΡ forms an abbreviation for the name of Christ; the use of the Greek letters Α and Ω (Alpha and Omega) goes back to the text of the Apocalypse: “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:8).
