Martyrs Zosimus the Hermit and Athanasius the Commentarisius
Martyrs
Venerable Martyr Zosimas, originally from Cilicia, asceticized in the desert. By the order of the wicked Diocletian, he was subjected to cruel tortures for the Christian faith: his ears were burned with hot iron, he was thrown into a cauldron of filth, and he was hung upside down. However, by a miraculous act, the saint was spared from death. During his torments, a lion from the desert came and spoke with a human voice, which terrified everyone, and Zosimas was released. Commentarius Athanasius, seeing him unharmed, believed in Christ and was baptized. Zosimas and Athanasius withdrew to the desert, where they peacefully surrendered their souls to the Lord.
On the same day, the memory of the venerable Theoctistus, abbot in Cucum Sikelian.
