Vukasin of Klepci
Martyr
In Klepce, there was an old church of Saint Apostle Luke, built by renowned Serbian builders. Elder Vukashin, hailing from the Mandran family, was likely born in the late 19th century. After the establishment of the new government in the Independent State of Croatia, he was forced to return to his native village, where his family suffered at the hands of the Ustaše. Vukashin was taken to the concentration camp Jasenovac, where in January 1943 he was brutally killed by the Ustaše executioner Žilo Frigopović.
The testimony of the executioner, recorded by Dr. Nedo Zec, describes how Vukashin, despite the torture, maintained his calm and dignity, uttering the words: “Child, do your job!” This left an indelible mark on the soul of the executioner, who could not rid himself of this memory.
