The New Hieromartyr Vsevolod Poteminsky was born on March 30, 1870, in the town of Nikolsk.
After three years of studies, he graduated from the Theological Seminary of Vologda. Beginning in 1890, he served as a deacon at the church in the village of Semukovo, while from 1900 he ministered in a church within the Nikolsky district. From 1891 to 1900, he also worked as a teacher. In 1903, he became a priest by Bishop Alexy of Vologda, while continuing his educational work. From 1910 onward, he was teaching at the parish school in the village of Kirs. There, he established a large library for the benefit of the local community. Soon afterward, he began teaching with educational books created by himself. He also became highly respected by all his parishioners.
In 1928, he was convicted by the Soviet authorities. In 1934 and again in 1936, he was deprived of his voting rights and expelled from his home together with his family. During the winter of 1937, the church in Semukovo was closed. On August 7, 1937, he was arrested and imprisoned on charges of counter-revolutionary activity. His case was sent into trial with serious procedural violations. Among other, he was denied the right to a defense.
The holy martyr was executed on September 19, 1937. By decree of the Holy Synod, on October 6, 2001, he was numbered among the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia.
