Saint Martyr Vladimir Grigoryevich Preobrazhensky was born in 1873 in the village of Troitskoye, Smolensk province. In 1929, he was arrested and sentenced to 3 years of camp imprisonment. On August 22, 1936, he was arrested again. On February 9, 1937, by the special council of the NKVD, he was sentenced to 3 years of exile in Kazakhstan.
On December 24, 1937, Father Vladimir was arrested in exile. During a search, NKVD officers found several poems he had written with religious content. The priest was accused of organizing an illegal prayer house and distributing counter-revolutionary poems. Father Vladimir did not admit his guilt, stating that he was arrested and exiled solely for his faith.
The saint martyr was shot on December 31, 1937, by the verdict of the troika of the UNKVD of the South Kazakhstan region. He was buried in a common unmarked grave. He was glorified by the Archdiocesan Jubilee Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in the year 2000.
