Saint Bassian was originally from eastern Syria. He came to Constantinople during the reign of the pious Emperor Marcian. With the help of distinguished spiritual men, he succeeded in founding a monastery.
He was known for his virtues and miracles, attracting a great number of people to the monastic life. He gathered around him as many as 300 disciples. Through his prayers, he cast out demons, healed illnesses and performed great miracles.
He reposed at an advanced age, toward the end of the 5th century.
