Deacon
Saint Vasily was born in 1879 in the village of Saburovo, Sergievsky district, Dmitrovsky county, Moscow province, in the family of deacon Nikolai Sokolov. In 1896, he graduated from the theological school and began serving as a psalmist in the Assumption Cathedral of Dmitrov. In 1920, he was ordained as a deacon, and in 1926, he was awarded a double orarion. In 1927, he was elevated to the rank of protodeacon. Since 1932, he served in the Kazan church in the village of Podlipichye.
On November 24, 1937, Protodeacon Vasily expressed dissatisfaction regarding the persecution of the Church and believers, expressing hope for deliverance from the Bolsheviks. On November 27, he was arrested and imprisoned in Taganka prison. During the interrogation, he denied any anti-Soviet activities, but on December 2, 1937, the NKVD troika sentenced him to ten years of imprisonment in a labor camp. Protodeacon Vasily Sokolov passed away in the camp on April 2, 1938, and was buried in an unmarked grave.
