Presbyter
Saint Martyr Basil was born on January 23, 1876, in the village of Krutets, Yaroslavl Province. He received his education at a theological school and served as a clerk in the army until 1917. During the years of persecution against the Russian Orthodox Church, he expressed a desire to become a priest and was ordained, serving in the Nikolai-Rozhdestvensky Church in the village of Verkhovye. In 1937, the church was closed, and he moved to the village of Pokrov-Roguli, where he continued to perform sacraments.
On December 28, 1937, he was arrested and accused of anti-Soviet agitation. During interrogations, the priest denied all accusations except for performing religious rites. The court hearings were postponed, and on June 16, 1938, he was sentenced to ten years in a correctional labor camp.
Priest Basil Preobrazhensky passed away on June 14, 1940, in Yaroslavl correctional labor colony No. 3 and was buried in an unmarked grave.
