The Holy New Martyr Vasily Vladimirovich Pobedonostsev was born in 1848. In 1870, he graduated from the Theological School of Perm, and in 1878 he was ordained to the priesthood, serving at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kamensky. He was also a member of the committee that supported students of the Theological School of Perm. In 1896 he was appointed dean of the second district. In 1899, he received an ecclesiastical award in recognition of his service. On March 29, 1906, he was dismissed from his position, and in 1912 he was elevated to the rank of first priest.
After the Bolshevik Revolution and the rise of the Soviet regime, the saint was arrested in 1918. He endured severe torture until June 10, when he was executed by beheading.
