Saint Martyr Basil was born on March 5, 1865, in the village of Goryainovo, Ryazan district of Ryazan province. After graduating from the Ryazan Theological Seminary, he served as a clerk in the excise department, and after the revolution, he was ordained and served in the Annunciation Church in Zaraysk. Priest Basil was an active preacher, for which he was later arrested. He preached about peace and tranquility, urging people to turn to God. In 1937, the relentless persecution of the Church began. He was arrested on September 5, 1937, and sentenced to ten years of imprisonment. Priest Basil passed away on December 20, 1941, in the Mariinsky transit point and was buried in an unmarked grave. The memory of the saint martyr is celebrated on December 7 (20).
