Presbyter
Saint Martyr Vasily was born on April 4, 1885, in the village of Naryshkino, Serdobsky district, Saratov province. After finishing the parish school, he entered the Church in the name of the Passion of the Lord in the city of Saratov, and later the Holy Danilov Monastery in Moscow, where he served as a chanter in the choir. In 1913, Bishop Innocent invited him to the city of Verny, and in 1914 he became a psalmist at the Alexander Nevsky seminary church in Tashkent. In 1915, Vasily was mobilized into the army and served as a psalmist at the regimental field church.
In 1918, he married Vera Trofimova and was ordained a deacon. Vasily Grigoryevich signed a document with a list of obligations to the Church, which he kept throughout his life. In 1923, he decided to return to his homeland in Saratov province to reconcile with his father.
In 1929, collectivization and famine began, which exacerbated the persecution of the Church. Father Vasily, as a peasant's son, engaged in various work but did not abandon his church service. In the early 1930s, he moved with his family from Saratov and was appointed to the church in the village of Markovo, and later to the church of the village of Ilyinsky Pogost.
In 1936, he was ordained a priest and resumed services in the Nikolsky church. However, in 1937, the church was closed, and Vasily was appointed to the Transfiguration Church in the village of Bolshie Vyazemy. On February 15, 1938, he was arrested and sentenced to execution, which was carried out on February 26, 1938. He was buried in an anonymous mass grave at the Butovo firing range near Moscow.
