Hieromonk
Vasily Egorovich Erekaev was born in 1879 in the village of Nosakino, Spassky district of Tambov province. He graduated from a rural school and entered the Sarov Monastery, where he served until the closure of the monastery in the spring of 1927. He was ordained as a hieromonk and served in the Assumption Church in the village of Staraia Pichermorga. In 1932, he was arrested but soon released. Father Vasily was a diligent pastor, often visiting parishioners, explaining Orthodox teachings, and warning against schism. In March 1937, he was arrested on charges of 'systematic counter-revolutionary activity.' He did not confess to the charges, stating that he provided guidance to the faithful. He was executed on August 10, 1937. He was glorified by the Archdiocesan Jubilee Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in the year 2000.
