Basil Arkhipov
Martyr
The Holy New Martyr Basil was born on the 26th of July 1876 in the village of Goretovo, in the Lukhovitsy District of Ryazan. He graduated from a parish school and served in the army from 1916 to 1917. After returning home, he took up farming and became a cantor at the local church.
In 1937, the persecution began. Basil and his fellow parishioners were accused of anti-Soviet activities. On 26 February 1938, they were arrested, while on 8 March they were sentenced to death.
On the 14th of March 1938, they were executed and buried in an unmarked grave at the Butovo firing range near Moscow.
