The Holy New Martyr Vasily was born on 20 March 1876 in the village of Spasskoye, in the Ruza District of Moscow Province. After graduating from the Volokolamsk Ecclesiastical School, he was appointed in 1898 as a chanter at the Church of St. Nicholas in the village of Amelfino. In 1910, he began serving as a chanter at the Church of St. Nicholas in the village of Zhegalovo, while in 1915 he was ordained as a deacon. In 1919, he was ordained to the priesthood and appointed to the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in the village of Ulitkino.
In 1935, Fr. Basil began serving at the Church of the Theophany in the village of Brykovo. The following year, he was honoured in recognition of his faithful service to the Church.
On 28 August 1937, he was arrested and imprisoned in Taganka Prison. During the interrogation, he denied all involvement in counter-revolutionary activities. On 19 September 1937, he was sentenced to death.
He was executed on 20 September 1937 and buried in a common, unmarked grave at the Butovo Firing Range near Moscow.
