Saint Martyr Vasily was born on March 20, 1876, in the village of Spasskoye, Ruza district of Moscow province. After graduating from the Volokolamsk Spiritual School, he was appointed as a psalmist at the Nikolayevskaya Church in the village of Amel'fino in 1898. In 1910, he began serving as a psalmist at the Nikolayevskaya Church in the village of Zhegalo, and in 1915 he was ordained as a deacon. In 1919, he became a priest at the Mary Magdalene Church in the village of Ulitkino.
In 1935, he was appointed to serve at the Epiphany Church in the village of Brykovo; in 1936, he was awarded the pectoral cross.
On August 28, 1937, he was arrested and imprisoned in Taganka prison. During the interrogation, he did not confess to any counter-revolutionary activities. On September 19, 1937, the NKVD troika sentenced him to execution. He was shot on September 20, 1937, and buried in a common unmarked grave at the Butovo shooting range near Moscow.
