Saint Basilissa of Nicomedia lived and became a martyr for her faith in Christ during the reign of the Emperor Diocletian.
Alexander, the governor of Nicomedia, ordered the arrest of the nine-year-old saint and tried in every way to persuade her to renounce Christ. However, the young girl remained steadfast despite the threats. She was subjected to horrific tortures. However, by the grace of God she remained alive for a long time. This manifestation of divine power, revealed through the radiant example of Saint Basilissa, deeply moved the governor. He came to believe in the true God and openly confessed himself to be a Christian. After being baptized by the Bishop Antoninus, and having spent a long period in prayer, repentance, and seeking forgiveness, he departed peacefully to the Lord, following Saint Basilissa.
Her end was filled with peace and love, while her repose was followed by many miracles wrought through her grace. († 309)
