Martyr Varvara was born in 1894 into a peasant family, after which her parents moved to Moscow. She received a good education and became a teacher. In 1915, she married Sergey Alexandrovich Losev, who was ordained as a deacon and then as a priest. On February 16, 1938, she was arrested and imprisoned in the Butyrka prison. During the investigation, Varvara Ivanovna denied all accusations of counter-revolutionary activity. On February 25, 1938, the NKVD troika sentenced her to execution. Varvara Ivanovna Loseva was shot on March 7, 1938, and buried in an unmarked common grave at the Butovo firing range near Moscow. Priest Sergey Losev passed away in custody on September 29, 1942, and was buried in an unmarked grave.
