Archimandrite
Saint Tikhon (in the world, Timofey Ulyanovich Krechkov) was born in 1862 in the village of Plotava, in the Repyov district of the Voronezh province, into a peasant family. He became a novice at the Alekseevsky Monastery in Voronezh, where he was tonsured and ordained as a hieromonk. In 1924, he was elevated to the rank of igumen, and three years later to that of archimandrite.
In 1930, Archimandrite Tikhon was arrested along with the brethren of the Alekseevsky Monastery. During interrogations, he stated that he did not engage in anti-Soviet conversations and did not consider himself guilty of the charges brought against him. On July 14, 1930, he was presented with a decree on the completion of the investigation, and on July 28, the Collegium of the OGPU sentenced them to death by shooting.
On August 2, 1930, after the feasts of Saint Seraphim of Sarov and the Prophet Elijah, the accused were informed of the sentence. On the same day, Archimandrite Tikhon and others were shot.
