Bishop
Saint Arseny, Bishop of Tver, was born in the city of Tver. Having lost his parents at an early age, he turned his home into a shelter for strangers and the poor. After going to Kiev, he took monastic vows in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Ordained to the rank of hierodeacon by Saint Cyprian, he became archdeacon in Moscow. In 1391, he was appointed Bishop of Tver, where he strove for peace and harmony among the princes.
Saint Arseny built and consecrated cathedrals, including those in Staritsa and Tver, and also founded the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery. In 1394, he established a monastery on the Tmak River, where a church was built in honor of the Venerable Anthony and Theodosius of the Caves.
He reposed on March 2, 1409, and was buried in the Zheltikov Monastery. His relics were found incorrupt in 1483, and since then, a feast has been established in his honor in Tver. The canonization of Saint Arseny took place at the Moscow Council in 1547. His feast is celebrated on March 2.
