He was born in the city of Adrianople in Paphlagonia in the 5th century. From childhood, he showed a desire for a holy life. He distributed his possessions to the poor and, having taken monastic vows, lived in simplicity and poverty, submitting his will to the elder.
Having withdrawn into the desert, he spent many years in prayer and glorifying God. His holiness became known, and people began to come to him in faith, asking for healing for their children. The saint, taking the sick children in his arms, prayed to God for healing, and the Lord granted it.
He overcame many temptations and became the patron saint of children. In deep old age, he departed to the Lord. The veneration of the saint spread, especially in the Churches of the Greek tradition, and people turn to him in prayers for the healing of children and deliverance from barrenness.
