Saint Stephen Vasilievich Ermolov was born on May 22, 1891, in the village of Chasovo. He completed primary school and, according to unconfirmed data, participated in World War I. From 1919 to 1922, he served in the Red Army, and after demobilization, returned to peasant labor. In 1926, he accepted the sacred order and became a priest of the Lower Kon Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Lower Konyets of Syktyvkar.
In 1936, he was brought to justice for “speculation in church valuables,” but was soon acquitted. On February 24, 1937, he was arrested on a fabricated case of the “Holy Brotherhood.” On September 13, 1937, he was sentenced to death. The sentence was carried out on September 15, 1937, in Syktyvkar.
The Holy Synod canonized Priest Stephen Ermolov among the saints on October 6, 2001.
