Presbyter
Saint Stephen (Stepan Alexandrovich Yaroshevich) was born in 1883 in the village of Ostashkovo, in the Proskurov district of the Podolsk province, into the family of a psalmist. After receiving a secondary education, he became a priest and served in the village of Horyachevka in the Vinnytsia region from 1930 to 1935. On November 7, 1935, he was arrested and sentenced to 6 years in a correctional labor camp, where he worked as a builder. In August 1937, he was arrested again in Karlag on charges of participating in a counter-revolutionary group that organized illegal prayers. Father Stephen did not confess to any wrongdoing, responding briefly to the interrogations. On September 10, 1937, the troika of the NKVD of the Karaganda region sentenced him to the highest measure of punishment. On September 15 of the same year, he was executed by shooting along with Bishop Damaskin and other clergymen.
