Presbyter
Father Stefan Nemkov served in the village of Deyanova, where he was arrested along with eighteen peasants. Before his arrest, he refused to hide, stating that he would not leave his church. He was brutally tortured and shot, but not killed immediately; he was finished off with a bayonet. He was buried separately from the other martyrs. Later, at the execution site, the faithful gathered his remains and erected a cross.
In 1923, Father Vladimir Karpinski was killed during the Paschal service when a local communist attempted to shoot him. Father Sergius was the last priest to serve in Deyanova before the church was closed in 1937. He was also arrested and died in custody.
The church starosta Alexei and his wife Irina were also arrested and died in custody. During the persecutions, the faithful continued to defend their faith, even sacrificing their property for the conduct of services.
