Bishop
Saint Simon, Bishop of Vladimir and Suzdal, became a monk in the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. He studied the lives of the saints and strove to imitate them, especially Saint Theodosius and Saint Anthony. Simon became known for his good deeds and spiritual discernment, which led to his election as bishop of the Vladimir and Suzdal diocese.
He cared deeply for his flock, teaching them the virtues of the Gospel and the true meaning of prayer. He sought to preserve peace and love among the people. He also composed a guide to the ascetic life of the Kyiv monks, collecting accounts of the miracles and martyrdoms of the great saints.
He showed great devotion to the Most Holy Theotokos and to the holy fathers of the Church, keeping their teachings always in his heart. He served as archbishop for twelve years. Saint Simon reposed in 1226 and was buried in the caves of the Lavra, where his body remained incorrupt.
