Saint Simeon, son of Cleopas, the brother of Saint Joseph the Betrothed, was a relative of our Lord Jesus Christ. Having seen the miracles of Christ, he believed in Him and became one of the seventy holy Apostles, preaching the word of the Gospel and resisting paganism. After the murder of Saint James, the first bishop of Jerusalem, Simeon was chosen to take his place. During the reign of Trajan, upon the denunciation of heretics, the saint was captured and, as a descendant of King David, was subjected to great tortures. He was nailed to the cross, until he surrendered his soul to the Lord.
