Saint Sylvester, Archbishop of Omsk and Pavlodar, was born on May 31, 1860, in the village of Kosovno, Kyiv province. He graduated from the Kyiv Theological Seminary and Academy, became an eparchial missionary, and then accepted the holy orders in 1892. In 1910, he took monastic vows under the name Sylvester and soon became an archimandrite. He was consecrated as Bishop of Priluki in 1911, later becoming Bishop of Chelyabinsk and Archbishop of Omsk and Pavlodar. In 1918, he headed the Temporary Church Administration in Siberia. He was arrested on February 6, 1918, and accepted a martyr's end on February 13, 1920, in Omsk. He was canonized among the ranks of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia in August 2000.
