Venerable Silvanus of the Kiev Far Caves
Venerable
Saint Silouan, a monk of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, was a zealous guardian of the purity of both soul and body. He afflicted his flesh with fasting and vigil, while cleansing his soul through prayer and godly contemplation. He was granted abundant spiritual gifts from the Lord: a special boldness in prayer to God, constant joy in the Lord, discernment, and the ability to work miracles. He lived in the late 13th to early 14th century. His relics rest in the caves of St. Theodosius.
