Holy Martyrs Severus and Memnon and the Thirty-Seven with them
Martyrs
Saint Severus died along with Saint Memnon and thirty-seven other martyrs who suffered for Christ in Philippopolis.
He was originally from Side in Pamphylia. Seeing the saints enduring every hardship, he too confessed his love for Christ. He was then subjected to severe torture and ultimately got beheaded.
The centurion Memnon also confessed his faith. He endured horrific tortures and finally surrendered his spirit in the flames.
The Church celebrates their memory on August 20.
