Deacon
Saint Sergius was born on October 5, 1884, in the village of Belaya Kolp' in the Volokolamsk district of Moscow province. He entered the Vifanskaya Theological Seminary but submitted a request for dismissal. In 1911, he was ordained as a deacon at the Church of John the Baptist in the village of Yaropelets, where he served until the church was closed. In 1924, he was awarded a double honor. On January 28, 1936, he was appointed to the Kazan Church.
On October 26, 1937, an assistant prosecutor of the Volokolamsk district received a note stating that clergy were holding meetings. Witnesses testified that Deacon Sergius had a close connection with his brother, Proto-Deacon Nikolai, who is venerated as a saint. He held discussions with the faithful, expressing dissatisfaction with the situation in the country.
On November 25, 1937, Deacon Sergius was arrested. He was accused of anti-Soviet activities, but he denied this. On November 29, a troika of the NKVD sentenced him to ten years of imprisonment in a labor camp. On January 3, 1938, he passed away in the hospital and was buried in an unmarked grave.
The memory of Saint Sergius is commemorated on December 21 (January 3).
