Saint Sergius was born on April 10, 1884, in the village of Teremets, Serpukhov district, Moscow province. In 1900, he graduated from the Perervinsk Spiritual School, and in 1906 – from the Moscow Spiritual Seminary. He served in the Assumption Church in the village of Belye Kolodezi, where he served his entire life, despite persecutions and arrests. In May 1929, threats and pressures from local authorities began. In December 1929, he was arrested by the OGPU, accused of anti-Soviet activities, and sentenced to three years of imprisonment in a concentration camp. In 1934, he returned to his parish and resumed his service. In 1937, during the last wave of persecution, he was arrested again and sentenced to execution. He was shot on November 27, 1937, at the Butovo firing range and buried in an unmarked grave. His memory is celebrated on November 14 (27).
