Saint Sergius was born in 1905 in the family of psalmist Alexey Rozanov in the village of Bely Rast. He entered the Theological Seminary but studied for only two years due to the revolution of 1917. From 1923 to 1925, he worked as a guard of the church, and from 1926 he served as a psalmist. In 1927, he was ordained as a deacon, and in 1933 – as a priest. He served in various churches, including the Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God. On October 10, 1937, he was arrested and imprisoned in Taganka prison.
During the investigation, he denied all accusations of counter-revolutionary activity. On November 11, 1937, the NKVD troika sentenced him to execution. Priest Sergius Rozanov was shot on November 13, 1937, and buried in an unknown common grave at the Butovo firing range near Moscow.
