Presbyter
Saint Martyr Sergius was born in 1888 in the village of Kuvyakin, Podolsky District of the Moscow Region. His father was a priest, and his mother came from a priestly family. At the age of 25, Sergius married Elizabeth Bogolyubskaya, and they had six children. After the death of Sergius's father-in-law, he was appointed to serve in a church, where he showed kindness and care for people, never refusing help. In 1932, he was summoned by the OGPU and offered to become an agent, to which he categorically refused. After being arrested and spending nine months in prison, he returned home but continued to serve. Later, he was arrested again, and his family was expelled from their home, after which Sergius moved to the Kaluga region, where he continued to serve. The church in the village was closed, and he moved to another village, but he was soon arrested there as well. His wife Elizabeth died of a stroke in 1942, and Sergius was executed on December 21, 1937.
