The Holy New Martyr Sergius Kudryatsev was born on July 1, 1881, in the village of Fryanovo, Moscow Province. He was the second child of Dimitry Feodorovich Kudryatsev, who served as a church chanter. After graduating from the theological school, Sergius worked as a teacher in several parish schools. He was later ordained first as a deacon and then as a priest. In 1914, he was called to military service, returning to his parish in 1916.
In 1924, he was appointed priest of the Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos in the village of Smatovo. In 1930, he was reassigned to the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in the village of Anisikino. In 1937, he was arrested and charged with participating in a counter-revolutionary group of the clergy. During the interrogations, he firmly denied all the accusations brought against him.
He was sentenced to death and executed on December 15, 1937, in the city of Volsk, Saratov Province. The location of his burial has remained unknown.
