Saint Martyr Sergius Kudryavtsev was born on July 1, 1881, in the village of Fryanovo, Moscow province. He was the second child of the psalmist Dmitry Feodorovich Kudryavtsev. After graduating from the Moscow Theological Seminary, Sergius worked as a teacher in church-parish schools and was later ordained as a deacon and priest. From 1914, he served at the front, and in 1916 returned to parish ministry.
In 1924, he became a priest at the Assumption Church in the village of Shmatovo. In 1930, he was again assigned to the Mother of God Birth Church in the village of Anisikino. In 1937, he was arrested and accused of participating in a counter-revolutionary group of clergymen. During interrogations, he denied all accusations.
He was sentenced to death by shooting, which was carried out on December 15, 1937, in the city of Volsk, Saratov region. The burial place of the remains of the victims of repression is currently impossible to establish.
