Anna Alexeyevna Gorshkova was born on February 2, 1893, in the village of Khmelniki, Yaroslavl Province. After taking the monastic vows under the name Serafima, she dedicated herself to the monastery until 1917. Following the revolution, she was forced to wander, and in 1921 she settled in the Resurrection Novodevichy Monastery in Petrograd, where she worked as a glassmaker.
On February 17, 1932, Sister Serafima was arrested and sentenced to 3 years of exile in Kazakhstan. In the city of Chimkent, she remained longer than required by the authorities, serving the exiled clergy. Serafima was honored with the holy martyrdom, being arrested on September 10, 1937, and shot on November 19.
