Saint Sava II, Archbishop of Serbia
Holy Hierarch
Sava II, the younger brother of King Stefan and the nephew of Saint Sava, took monastic vows in his youth and labored on the Holy Mount Athos, where he faced oppression from the Latins. After returning to Serbia, he was consecrated as archbishop by the blessed Arsenius, who felt his old age and illness. Sava II emulated the life of his predecessors, especially demonstrating meekness. He passed away in early 1267 and was buried in the Peć Monastery next to Saint Arsenius. The Serbian Church extols his virtues, noting his good life and spiritual fruit.
(The memory of the saint is celebrated again on August 30.)
