Holy Martyr Raisa (Iraida) of Alexandria
Martyr
The holy virgin Iraida lived in Alexandria. One day, going to the spring for water, she saw a ship with Christ's prisoners, who were being taken for torture for confessing the name of Jesus Christ. Suddenly, Iraida was filled with love for the Lord, cast aside her water jug, and voluntarily joined the prisoners. Upon arriving in Antinople, she was the first to endure cruel tortures and was beheaded, after which all the other prisoners sealed their faith in Jesus Christ with their blood.
Saint Iraida passed away around the year 308. Her memory is celebrated again under the name Raisa on September 5.
