Presbyter
The village of Sholga in the Vologda province, where there was a church in honor of the Holy Trinity, became the place of service for Father Prokopy Popov. In the turbulent times preceding the revolution, he predicted that tsarist money would become useless. In 1918, after the revolution, Father Prokopy was arrested by the Bolsheviks and shot on October 13, just before the feast of the Protection of the Mother of God. He bid farewell to his parishioners, removed his cassock, and remained in a podryasnik, preparing for a martyr's death. His body was initially buried in a field, but later, thanks to the efforts of his sons, it was permitted to transfer it to the cemetery of the village of Koskovo. Father Prokopy was canonized among the ranks of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia in August 2000.
