During the reign of Emperor Antoninus, when persecutions against Christians began, a man lived in Sardinia with his son. The boy was named Potit and was enlightened by the grace of the Holy Spirit. He rejected idolatry and was baptized a Christian. His father, enraged, locked him in a room and deprived him of food and water. Nevertheless, Potit cultivated love for God within himself. He prayed unceasingly and never lost hope.
After many trials, he continued to confess his faith. An Angel of the Lord appeared to him and gave him the strength to endure every temptation. The saint courageously overcame the snares of the devil, who sought to deceive him and draw him away from the path of prayer. Seeing that his son did not yield to threats, his father began to use gentler means to persuade him to offer sacrifices to the pagan gods. Potit insisted that this would be destructive to his soul and steadfastly refused.
In the end, his father came to believe in Christ and got baptised. Following the example of the Apostles, Potit began to preach the word of the Gospel. He performed many miracles, healing the sick and delivering people from the demons that tormented them. Among others, he healed the daughter of Emperor Antoninus, who was possessed by evil spirits. However, the emperor never acknowledged the true God and continued to worship idols.
Potit became the victim of fierce persecutions and tortures. Despite the trials he endured, he remained unshaken. Among other things, he reproached the emperor for his faith in idols, which further inflamed the emperor’s anger.
After many hardships, beatings, and numerous tortures, the saint remained alive and unharmed. Finally, the emperor ordered his beheading.
Saint Martyr Potit surrendered his soul to Christ at a very young age.
