Venerable Peter of Constantinople
Confessor
Saint Poplia was a deaconess of the Antiochian Church and was renowned for her virtuous life. In her youth, she was married and had a son, John, who became a pious presbyter. After her husband's death, she gathered virgins around her, with whom she glorified the Lord. One day, during Matins, they sang a psalm loudly, which attracted the attention of Emperor Julian. He ordered them to be silent, but Poplia continued to sing, for which she was punished. Despite threats, she rebuked the emperor for his godlessness and considered the truth of God above all. After this, she was sent home, where she continued to praise God. Soon, the saint peacefully surrendered her spirit to the Lord.
