Saint Martyr Polychronius, the son of a farmer Vardanius from the region of Gamphanida, was taught the truths of the Christian faith and the reading of divine books. Through the prayers of the youth Polychronius, a spring of water was revealed during a drought. As he grew up, he engaged in the cultivation of grapes and worked in Constantinople, where his virtues impressed his master, who sent him money for prayer. Polychronius used these funds to build a church and attended the First Ecumenical Council as a reader, later becoming a priest. During the intensification of the Arian heresy, he was killed by heretics at the holy altar, being stabbed and cut to pieces with swords.
