Venerable Pimen the Faster of the Kiev Caves

Ηegumen / Abbot
Venerable Pimen, the ascetic of Pechersk, labored in the Far Caves. He attained great grace, feeding only once a week, despite his constant monastic obedience. He never weakened from fasting, whether he was praying at the millstones or carrying firewood, and at night he stood in prayer.
According to the opinion of Metropolitan Eugene, the ascetic lived during the time of the igumen (abbots) Nikon and John, which was also shared by Bishop Modest. Archbishop Philaret considered him to be the igumen of the Lavra from 1132 to 1141. This is confirmed by the 'Chronological Lists of Russian Saints.'
The memory of the ascetic is celebrated on August 20, on the day of Venerable Pimen the Many-Suffering, who rests in the Near Caves.
