Venerable Pimen of Palestine
Venerable
Saint Poimen lived in a cave in the desert of Rouba. He practiced strict asceticism and survived solely on tree roots.
One day, Abba Agathonikos visited his cave and tried to practice asceticism together with him. While Agathonikos suffered from the cold, Saint Poimen remained calm, despite the nakedness of his body. He even told him that a lion would come and sit beside him, keeping him warm.
Among other things, he prophesied that he would end his life at the hands of wild beasts. Three years later, the saint was indeed killed by the animals that attacked him.
The Church celebrates his memory on August 27.
