Metropolitan Bishop
He was born in the land of Volhynia to pious parents. During his mother's pregnancy, a vision appeared regarding his future. From the age of seven, he began to learn the Divine Scriptures, but at first, he studied poorly until he received a blessed revelation in a dream. From that time on, he began to understand quickly and studied the entire Holy Scripture.
At the age of twelve, he went to a monastery, where he performed obedience and was ordained a deacon and presbyter. Later, he withdrew to a deserted place, built a church, and gathered brethren. News of his virtue reached the prince, and he was honored.
When Metropolitan Maximus arrived in Rus', the saint presented him with an icon of the Most Holy Theotokos. After the death of Metropolitan Maximus, a certain Gerontius attempted to seize the episcopate, but the Volhynian prince suggested that the saint go to Constantinople for consecration. The saint long refused, but eventually agreed.
In Constantinople, Patriarch Athanasius blessed him and consecrated him to the episcopal ministry. Saint Peter returned to his metropolis, where he taught the people and cared for his flock. The crafty enemy stirred up envy against him, but the saint forgave his offenders.
The saint also reproached the heretic Seita, who preached a teaching contrary to the Orthodox faith. Later, the hierarch arrived in Moscow, where he advised Prince Ioann to build a church in honor of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos.
Before his death, the saint predicted his demise and arranged a tomb for himself in the church that was being built. After his death, the people mourned, and his relics were placed in the tomb, where they began to work miracles. Many healings occurred from his relics, and the saint is venerated for his virtuous life and ministry.
