Venerable Peter the Hermit of Galatia Near Antioch, in Syria
Venerable
Born in Pontus to pious parents, with whom he lived only seven years. In Galatia, then in Palestine, he dedicated himself to prayer and settled in Antioch. Secluding himself in a shed, he spent his time in unceasing prayers, feeding only on bread and water. He had power over demons, healed the blind and various ailments. He gave teachings both in writing and verbally, and became renowned for his holy life throughout Antioch. Having lived for ninety years, adorned with virtues and the struggles of silence, he peacefully departed to the Lord around the year 429.
