Blessed Peter, King of Bulgaria
Right-Believing
Blessed Peter, King of Bulgaria, was the son of the valiant Bulgarian prince Simeon. He was distinguished by Christian piety and often turned to the venerable John of Rila, seeking his prayers and guidance. King Peter concluded a peace with Byzantium on favorable terms for Bulgaria and obtained from the Patriarch of Constantinople the recognition of the independence of the Bulgarian Church, which had a beneficial effect on the entire Church. He contributed to the eradication of the Bogomil heresy in the country. He passed away in 967, at the age of 56.
