Pavel Pechersky, the Obedient
Venerable
Venerable Paul the Obedient, a hermit of the Far Caves in Kyiv, took monastic vows in the Pechersk Monastery. He endured the most difficult obediences assigned to him by the abbot without complaint. He was never idle; even when he was not performing an obedience, he ground grain on the millstone, exhausting his body with hard work while maintaining an unceasing inner prayer. The Church commemorates his memory on September 10, together with Saint Paul, Bishop of Nicaea.
