Bishop
Saint Paul, Bishop of Neocaesarea, was renowned for his virtues, which attracted the attention of Licinius, who ruled in Nicomedia. He was subjected to cruel tortures for his faith, including hunger, beatings, and a heated ring that damaged his hands. After being freed under Constantine the Great, he returned to his see and participated in the First Ecumenical Council in Nicaea, where he was one of the martyrs for Christ. He bore the marks of beatings and burned hands. After the council, he resumed his pastoral duties and, after many years, departed to the Lord.
