Presbyter
Saint Paul the New Martyr was born in 1875 in the village of Novinki. After graduating from the Moscow Theological School, he was ordained a priest and began serving at the Church of the Prophet Elijah in the village of Lishchevo. After the Revolution, he was elevated to the rank of archpriest and was appointed rector.
On November 25, 1937, he was arrested and held in the Kolomna prison, where he was charged with counter-revolutionary activity. On February 3, 1930, he was sentenced to three years in a forced labor camp. He was released in 1933.
On November 15, 1937, he was arrested again, while on November 25, the NKVD troika sentenced him to ten years of imprisonment. He died on March 2, 1938, as a result of the harsh conditions of his detention. His body was buried in an unmarked grave.
