Saint Pavel of Yagodinsk was born on December 8, 1879, in the village of Saigushi, Ardatov district of the Simbirsk province. He received his education at the Theological Seminary, married in 1900, and accepted the deacon's rank. He began serving in the village of Shugurovo. Father Pavel was a hardworking, kind, and honest man who was not afraid to express his thoughts about the events occurring in the post-revolutionary years. In 1929, he was arrested and sentenced to 8 months of corrective labor. After his release, he resumed serving in the church of the village of Shugurovo, where he baptized, married, and buried people. In 1930, the church was closed, and Father Pavel was arrested again. In 1933, he began serving in the church of the village of Buzayevo. Father Pavel refused the chairman of the village council's offer to leave the priesthood. On August 5, 1937, he was arrested for the third time, accused of 'actively participating in the organization of a counter-revolutionary kulak uprising.' During the interrogation, he confirmed that he had no intention of resigning from his rank. The troika of the NKVD sentenced him to the highest measure of punishment. On September 3, 1937, he was executed.
