Venerable Pansophius of Alexandria, the Martyr
Venerable Martyr
Saint Pansophius was the son of the Alexandrian proconsul Nilos. Possessing wealth, he used it to help those in need, after which he withdrew to the desert to seek the Lord. He spent twenty-seven years in solitude, raising his mind to contemplate the heavenly kingdom and remaining in prayer. The fame of his virtuous life reached the Alexandrian prefect, who, being a persecutor of Christians, summoned the saint to trial. Pansophius exposed pagan teachings and preached about Christ as God, for which he was subjected to cruel scourging and received the martyr's crown.
